In 1996, fueled by a common passion for renewing feminism as they knew it, four young women came together and founded an organization run by young women, for young women. Third Wave Foundation, driven by a multi-class, multi-gender, and multi-racial group distributed our first grants in 1997 to grassroots organizing efforts around the country.
Because of this, we face an important juncture in our growth in 2006 and 2007. Since our initial grants ten years ago, we have broadened the scope of our work to include young women and transgender youth, we have further developed our programs, and we have achieved a strong presence in the philanthropic community.
The celebration of our 10 Year Anniversary is both to commemorate our achievements thus far, and to grow our resources so that we can continue to reach hundreds of organizations and individual activists, building a stronger and more sustainable feminist movement.
We kicked off the celebration with a Benefit and Silent Auction on December 6, 2006 in New York City. Get the glimpse of the fabulous evening.
