Frequently Asked Questions regarding Grants Program
Do you make international grants?
Unfortunately, we do not fund internationally. We are a small foundation that focuses our grantmaking on a national level. You may want to try the Global Fund for Women at globalfundforwomen.org or the Sister Fund at sisterfund@aol.com
Are the grant deadlines the receive-by date or the postmark date?
Please mail your application on or before the deadline date. Applications must be postmarked by the deadline date. If October 1 or April 1 falls on a Sunday, mail your application on the following Monday. Late applications will not be accepted.
What if I miss this deadline?
We do not accept any late applications. Late applications must be resubmitted in order to be considered for the next grant cycle.
Do I need to be a US Citizen to apply?
No, you do not need to be a US citizen to apply. To be eligible for our Scholarships for Young Women and Transgender Activists you must either be studying at an American University, Community College, or vocational school.
To be eligible for our Reproductive Rights or Organizing and Advocacy Grants your organization and/or program must be based in the United States.
My organization doesn’t have a 501©3 designation, can we still apply?
Yes. However, you must be fiscally sponsored by an organization with it’s own 501©3 designation. Please include your fiscal sponsor’s IRS letter and a letter of agreement with your application.
Can I fax or e-mail Third Wave my application?
We only accept applications by regular mail. Please print the on-line application and send it to:
The Third Wave Foundation
25 East 21st Street
4th Floor
New York, NY 10010
When are the grant decisions made?
Approximately two and a half months after the applications are due.
Do you still offer college scholarships to young women and transgender youth?
As of 2005, Third Wave Foundation has closed its Scholarship Program to shift resources to other programs. Please let us know where you found out about the scholarship so that we can notify the party of our scholarship program’s termination. You can check out our scholarship resource list for other opportunities available.
