Website and Graphic Design Intern

We are seeking one intern to work part-time (15-20 hours per week) during the Summer for school credit or work-study hours, or a small stipend if other funds cannot be secured. Third Wave’s website and graphic design intern will receive the chance to gain web maintenance, design, and project management experience in a progressive non-profit setting. Ideal candidates are creative, innovative, independent, eager to learn, and have an interest in developing a birds-eye view of the feminist youth activism landscape and learning more about feminist organizations, non-profits, and foundations.

The intern will work with the Operations Officer and Communications Associate in this position on a number of hands-on projects that integrate the technical skills required of typical web and graphic design internships with Third Wave’s work in the social justice and philanthropic sectors. Some of your time will also be dedicated to administrative projects that support the operational work of the foundation.

The internship will involve:

  • Analyzing our current website design and infrastructure to evaluate areas for improvement
  • Implementing recommended website changes and training staff on how to make those changes
  • Designing an interactive grantee map to create a visual and textual representation of our current and former grantees.
  • Creating and editing banners for the website
  • Working with the staff to help create logos and other branding materials
  • Some administrative tasks to support the operational work of Third Wave

Individuals applying for this internship should have demonstrated:

  • Skill in website design and maintenance
  • Graphic design experience
  • Some knowledge of html
  • An ability to plan and prioritize tasks to meet multiple deadlines
  • Independence and initiative
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong writing skills
  • Interest in Third Wave’s work

Development and Communications Intern

We are seeking 1-2 interns to work part-time (15 – 20 hrs/week) for Summer 2008 for school credit, work-study hours, or a small stipend if other funds cannot be secured. Ideal candidates are creative, innovative, independent, eager to learn and have an interest in developing a birds-eye view of the feminist youth activism landscape and learning more about feminist organizations, non-profits, and foundations. The internship is available in the Development and Communications Department.

The Development and Communications Intern(s) will gain hands-on experience and knowledge—we are a small, passionate staff and guarantee you will be challenged and valued on our team. The D&C intern(s) will have the opportunity to take the lead in a couple of new projects we are planning on implementing and will have a significant amount of responsibility, so it’s a great way to maximize your internship experience.

Interns will work with the Development and Communications Associate and Philanthropic Partnerships Associate who love to dance, cook and eat.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Communications

  • online media research and maintenance
  • work on and potentially take the lead in strategic outreach to different communities
  • writing a variety of communications materials from articles to press releases to blurbs for the website
  • some design of communications materials, from events to newsletters
  • some administrative tasks

Development

  • conducting research on prospective donors
  • drafting & submitting grant proposals and reports to institutional funders
  • assisting with preparation and logistics for events
  • helping to manage a database for tracking all development and outreach activity
  • the opportunity to take the lead in components of a long-term individual donors campaign
  • running Third Wave’s acknowledgments program
  • some administrative tasks
